If you are a University of Maryland Baltimore (UMB) employee, this post is for YOU!

On January 10, 2018, UMB announced changes to the Live Near Your Work program (LNYW)

Starting Jaunuary 29th, UMB employees will be able to apply for the LNYW program and be eligible to receive up to $18,500 to purchase a home in one of the seven LNYW neighborhoods in an effort to revitalize the communities that neighbor the universities.

The 7 LNYW neighborhoods are listed below:

Barre Circle

Franklin Square

Hollins Market

Mount Clare

Union Square

Washington Village/Pigtown

 (see map of LNYW neighborhoods).

Unlike other home buying incentive programs, you do not have to be a first-time home buyer nor is the program income-restricted (Best news ever!!!)

To be eligible for this program, you must be:

  • A regualar full-time or part time (50% FTE or more) faculty or staff employee of the University of Maryland Baltimore, and in good standing

  • The home being purchased must be within the targeted neighborhoods

  • Complete a homeownership counseling program provided by HUD (U.S Dept of Housing & Urban Development) prior to submitting a contract on the property

  • Creditworthiness

  • Minimum home owner down payment of $1,000 (A.K.A Earnest Money Deposit)

*University of Maryland Medical Employees are not eligible

If you qualify, you can receive $16,000 from UMB and $2,500 from the Baltimore City Live Near Your Work Program

If you are a UMB employee and are interested in buying your first home, please email me or give me a call to discuss your options.
